Hello! My name is Holly, and I've been living in Jeju for about two years.
People often ask me what it's like to live here,
so I figured I'd give a breakdown of a typical month for me here.
Unlike most foreigners, I'm NOT a teacher or a business owner or a student.
Actually, I'm a member of the Jeju Young Farmers!
What's that like? Read on!
안녕하십니까! 저는 25살 미구 시카고에서온 도하리 입니다.
많이 사람들은 저한테 물어버: 왜 제주도에 있어요???
그래서, 저는 여기에 제가 생활에 대해 얘기할거예요.
보통 외국인들 한국에 선생님 아님 비즈니스 소유자 아님 대학생을 입니다.
저요? 아닙니다!!!
저는 제주 청년 농부 입니다!

1. 제주청년농부 캠프 - Jeju Young Farmers Camp

This camp is always full of really fun people who are always wanting to make new friends.
In just a short time, you can meet people from Korea, Taiwan, the US, and even Africa!
We have all kinds of guests staying for anywhere from one day to one year.
이캠프에 많이 친구들을 만날수있습니다.
한국인 과 외국인 있습니다 - 미국에서, 대만에서, 아프리카에서도 사람들 있습니다!
하루 게스트 아님 일년 게스트, 다들은 아주 재미있습니다.

 Simple dormitory rooms...
도미토리방들...
...but a beautiful view!
...과 예쁜 뷰!ㅎㅎ

And we always enjoy fun activities together
like having parties and game time in the dorm!

2. 글로벌 투어 - Global Tours

Once a week, we go out and explore Jeju together!
We usually visit a couple natural places, a cafe, and a restaurant.
So much fun with new friends~
일주에 한번에 우리 같이 글로벌투어에 갑니다!
보통 우리는 자얀, 카페, 식당을 찾을수있습니다.
매우 재밌을 새로운 친구들이랑~

3. 알뜨르 농부 시장 - Farmers' Market

The pride and joy of the Jeju Young Farmers'!
This market has both agricultural products and pre-packaged snacks.
The food is all locally sourced, and we use the market to give work experience to our staff.
We always have so much fun working here...you can see why. :P
제주청년농부의 자부심 과 기쁨!
이시장에는 농산물 과 미리 포장 된 간식이 모두 있습니다.
음식은 모두 현지에서 조달되며 우리는 시장을 통해 직원들에게 업무 경험을 제공합니다.
우리는 항상 여기에서 일하는 것이 너무 재미 있습니다 ... 그 이유를 알 수 있습니다. :P

요즘에 저는 제주도에 진짜 예연인 입니다...
그래서 우리 같이 제주도에 영어 공부하고 영행 가자!!!

우리가 완전 친한 친구들 될 수있습니다!!!

5. 음식 과 문화 - Food and Culture

One of the most important parts of travel and
one of the easiest ways to learn about another country,
sharing food is something we do every day here at our camp!
여행의 가장 중요한 부분 중 하나
다른 나라에 대해 배울 수있는 가장 쉬운 방법 중 하나인데,
음식을 나누는 일은 우리 캠프에서 매일하는 일입니다!

American food
 Vegetarian-friendly
 Always cooking and eating together
맨날 같이 요리하고 밥 먹언
 Eating some seafood we harvested together!
우리캠프 앞에 있는 바다에서 해물 요리하고 먹었습니다!

 Japanese okonomiyaki

 Shopping at the street market together~
오일장에 슢잉 하자~


 And of course, Korean fried chicken!
당연...치킨 먹어욤~ ㅋㅋ
But you can always find snacks that remind you of home!
미국 과자도 찾을수있습니다! ㅋㅋㅋ

How to Make: Pickled Korean Radish with Red Cabbage

Pickling Radishes and Red Cabbages Pickled vegetables are one of the most common side dishes in Korean cuisine. They are easy to make and can feed a lot of people - they also pair well with just about any main dish (especially Korean BBQ and other grilled meat)!!! Let's take a look at how to make some pickled Korean vegetables! First up: Get some Korean or daikon radishes and red cabbage (much sweeter than white cabbage). You will also need vinegar (about one or two bottles, depending on how much you want to make), and some white sugar. However, you can change up the recipe if you like! Try apple cider vinegar to use less sugar, or use a soft beverage like a lemon-lime soda in place of the sugar. (More on that later!)  One of the most vital aspects of understanding another country and its people is to know that country's history. Visiting these significant locations helps to better understand the culture of the place where you are staying, and thus I give my strong recommendation to pay a visit.  In Jeju, one of the most important historical sites is Seotal Oreums, though it is commonly just referred to as Sa-Sam (43). This site was heavily used by Japanese soldiers during the occupation period in Korean history.  Plane bunkers were dug out by Korean locals - under Japanese command - to house planes during WWII.  From above, US planes could not distinguish the bunkers from other hills and mounds of the mountainous landscape of Jeju. All they saw were Koreans working on the farmland. Today, this place is still considered a very dark tourist site. Locals continue to farm the land and sometimes put on performances in the bunkers.
